Prices from 8 sellers in NSW. We don’t list the whole market, so other sellers may have different prices.

Boards only, inc GST: each board’s average price per square metre × the deck’s area, with no waste allowance, clips, screws, framing, footings, delivery or labour. From $63.01 to $425.68 per m² across 44 boards. Prices seen 8–15 Oct 2026. Sample data is badged.

Where no seller in NSW prices a board, its row uses the national average and says so (20 boards).

* Per m² assumes a 5 mm gap between boards: the brand doesn’t publish one.

Recommended and featured on the deck designer: Composite Decks picks these ranges: they are the boards we know well, and the deck designer is built around them. No brand or seller pays for the place. Every other range we track is listed below them in the usual order. Each price is an average of the retail prices we have seen for that board, with any price more than 25% above or below the middle price left out. Each seller counts once. Prices include GST and are per square metre of deck (the board’s cover width plus the gap beside it) and per board. The “Recommended and featured on the deck designer” boards come first. How this is worked out

A price per square metre is the price per lineal metre × 1,000 ÷ the board’s cover (its width plus the gap beside it, in mm). The board cost for your deck is that price × the deck’s area (17.3 m²), worked out for each board at its average price among the sellers in your state (the national average where no seller there prices it), with any seller more than 25% above or below the middle price left out.

The figures come from the same engine as the free deck designer, run on the server for a rectangular deck against the house. The span tables behind its framing have been checked by a structural engineer, but every framed figure is still a concept figure: concept plan, not for construction. Have a builder, building surveyor or certifier check any design before you build it.

Extra rot protection near the ground19 frame pieces sit 400 mm or less above the ground. Wood this close to the ground gets extra rot protection (H4 treatment) instead of H3. Posts are always H4. Nothing for you to do.
Last row of boards ripped to 25 mmThe last row of boards has to be ripped (cut down lengthwise) to 25 mm wide — a full board is 137 mm. To finish on a full board, make the deck depth (out from the house) 31 mm smaller (3569 mm) or 112 mm larger (3712 mm). Strips narrower than about 69 mm are hard to fix down and can split or cup.
Council approval — NSWIn NSW an open or roofed deck up to 25 m² and 1 m above the ground, at least 900 mm from the boundaries and behind the front building line, is usually exempt development, so no approval is needed. Heritage items, foreshore land and some bushfire land are excluded. Your deck is 17.3 m² and 450 mm high, within the 25 m² / 1000 mm limits of that pathway, so it may be exempt — confirm with your council before you build.
