Composite decking prices by state

Every price behind these pages was seen on a seller’s public page or price list, on the day stated, for a named range and board size. Shops that allow it are read each week; the rest are checked by hand each month. A new price, or one that moves more than 15% from the last one shown, is checked by us before it counts.

For each board, each seller counts once, at the middle of its own prices (colours and lengths). A seller more than 25% above or below the middle seller is left out as an outlier, and the rest are averaged. The average is shown per square metre of deck (the board’s width plus the gap beside it, so ranges of different widths compare) and per board. Prices include GST.

A state page averages the sellers that serve that state: sellers who sell Australia-wide and sellers who serve the state. Where a seller publishes a price for the state, it replaces that seller’s national price. Where no seller in the state prices a board, the page shows the national average and says so. A price seen more than 90 days ago is badged; one seen more than 180 days ago is left out.

We don’t name sellers beside prices: each figure says how many sellers it averages and when the newest price was seen. A board nobody prices yet is shown as price on request, with a way to get quotes.

The “Recommended and featured on the deck designer” boards come first. Composite Decks picks these ranges: they are the boards we know well, and the deck designer is built around them. No brand or seller pays for the place. Every other range we track is listed below them in the usual order. Below them, boards are listed by their average price per square metre, lowest first, unless you choose another order. No seller can pay to change the order or the figures.

A state’s page is listed in search engines once at least three sellers in that state have priced five ranges there in the last 60 days. Until then it is here for visitors but marked not to be indexed, so a thin page never stands in for the market.
