Gap between boards
3 mmSources disagree. Maker’s install guide says 5 (Plastic board clips (installation guide).); Maker’s datasheet says 5.5 (Moulded ABS fastener (ELITE specification sheet).). The published value comes from the higher-ranked source; safety facts take the conservative one.

End gap rule
Total expansion of a 5.4 m board: 1.08 mm for a 5 °C change; 2.16 mm for a 10 °C change; 3.24 mm for a 15 °C change; 4.32 mm for a 20 °C change; 5.4 mm for a 25 °C change; 6.48 mm for a 30 °C change; 7.56 mm for a 35 °C change; 8.64 mm for a 40 °C change · Expansion coefficient: 44.2e-6 (ELITE specification) · Worked example: 5.4 m board in full sun, 25 C laid to 55 C: about 6 mm total, so 3 mm gap each end to framing/breaker board
How this was read

Installation guide "Thermal expansion" sheet (total board variance for a given temperature change; 0.2 mm per metre per 5 C). Surface temperature in full sun is quoted as up to about 60 C. The guide says a blanket 3 mm gap is usually too large for butt joins in shade and gives worked examples; no fixed gap table.

How we get these prices

Each price is an average of the retail prices we have seen for that board, with any price more than 25% above or below the middle price left out. Each seller counts once. Prices include GST and are per square metre of deck (the board’s cover width plus the gap beside it) and per board. Prices were seen on the dates shown on sellers’ own price lists and websites; confirm with the seller before you buy.

Per lineal metre: Sun Decking Elite 140 × 23 average $16.48.

Facts are taken from the highest-ranked source (certificates and test reports, then install guides and datasheets, then warranties, then web pages); when sources disagree the specification says so, and safety facts take the conservative value. Every plan the designer draws from these figures is a concept plan, not for construction: the span tables behind its framing have been checked by a structural engineer, but a builder, building surveyor or certifier must check the plan before you build.
